2 Timothy 2:11-13

SCRIPTURE 2 Timothy 2:11–13 “It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.”

COMMENTARY This is also reflected in Matthew 10:32-33 as well. If we deny Jesus, our Lord will deny us.  Again, this passage is written to believers, not unbelievers.  It should be noted that the idea that “he abideth faithful” does not mean that if we lose faith (shown in other Scripture), we will remain saved because He is faithful.  God has shown that He is utterly faithful to His promises but that those to whom the promises did not always receive them; that is God found others which received the promises.  I wonder what proponents of guaranteed, unconditional eternal security would say the result of Jesus denying us before the Father actually is.
