SCRIPTURE 2 Timothy 4:6–8 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”  

COMMENTARY Paul says specifically, “I” have kept the faith along with a variety of other things “he” did.  While the Holy Spirit undoubtedly assisted Paul, he understood that it was his choice and his responsibility to keep the faith, otherwise he would have written something like, “God has kept me in the faith.”  Yet this is not what God inspired Paul to write.  Here we see once again, that Paul references that he has fought the good fight, finished his course demonstrating once again Paul did not understand salvation as a one and done event. The outcome of doing so? Paul tells us here that it is to eventually receive a crown of righteousness.
