SCRIPTURE Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)” 

COMMENTARY The admonition to hold fast would not be necessary if there is no way to lose our salvation; that is for us to slip away.  Again, this is contrary to the modern church’s teaching of guaranteed, unconditional eternal security.  Note that God will be faithful to fulfill His promise of salvation, but we must recognize that the promise is conditioned on more than just coming to Christ (entering through the “strait gate” of Matthew 7:14).  That must be followed by submitting to the Holy Spirit in obedience to God’s commands (the “narrow way” Jesus spoke of in that same verse).
